Gupta Empire, Chandragupta II, c. 380-413, AV dinar, 7.59 g. (18 mm). Obverse: ‘chhatra’ type; king standing left, offering oblations on a fire, attendant at right holding parasol (chhatra) over the king with left leg raised up, circular Brahmi legend around. Reverse: Lakshmi, standing facing on beautifully preserved lotus with petals upwards, holding long-stemmed lotus flower in her left hand, and diadem in right, with tamgha to left and Brahmi legend to right, vikramadityah. Kumar, TOTGE 2024, Class I, variety A4. Raven, CG2/group 3.
The distinct variety in which the king is seen dropping oblations on to the fire altar and the goddess on reverse is standing facing.
Fine-VF, with dark deposits on both sides that add attractive contrast.
