Lot 1054 – Kushanas, Kanishka III, c. 267-270, AV dinar, 7.69 g. Ardoksho
Kushanas, Kanishka III, c. 267-270, AV dinar, 7.69 g. (22 mm). Obverse: king standing facing, head left, sacrificing over altar and holding staff; trident to left, Bactrian inscription around. Reverse: Ardoksho enthroned with feet on lotus, facing, holding cornucopia and diadem, Bactrian inscription to right, tamgha left, within dotted border.
We tentatively attribute this coin to Kanishka III, but these coins remain notoriously hard to identify (the website Coinindia.com notes « no coins have yet been definitively attributed to Kanishka III“). We rely on research of the Chand collection conducted at the British Museum for identification of this coin.
About VF, some weakness from the strike and the die.
