Description

Gupta Empire, Chandragupta II, c. 380-413, AV dinar, 7.93 g. (20 mm). Obverse: ‘archer’ type; king standing left, holding an Indian longbow in left hand and an arrow in right, Garuda standard at left, Brahmi legend left of bow, Chandra. Reverse: Lakshmi enthroned on lotus seat, holding diadem and lotus blossom, Brahmi legend at right, Sri Vikrimah, tamgha left, dotted border around. Kumar TOTGE 2024, Class III, variety A

Good EF, strong details and a high relief, lustre shows through.

A wonderfully detailed coin in an exceptional state of preservation that allows us to see details in the lotus flower on reverse, as well as king Chandragupta’s extraordinary wardrobe, the elaborately jewelled dress, earring, and helmet.
