Lot 10039 – Kushanas, Kanishka I, c. 127-152, Nana, AV quarter dinar, 1.57 g.
Kushanas, Kanishka I, c. 127-152, AV quarter dinar, 1.57 g. (13 mm). Obverse: Kanishka, diademed and crowned, standing facing, head left, holding goad and scepter, sacrificing over altar to left; flame at shoulder, Bactrian legend ÞAONANOÞAO KA NhÞKI KOÞANO (King of kings, Kanishka Kushan) around. Reverse: Goddess Nana standing right, nimbate, holding bowl and sceptre, tamgha at right, with Bactrian legend NANAÞAO.
Fine+, reasonably well-defined details, well-centered with legible legend.
A very rare quarter fraction with the unusual NANAÞAO spelling of the goddess. This coin manages to incorporate all elements and the entire inscription of the much larger dinar type.
