1871 (May) lettersheet sent registered to King Carol I, with mixed issue franking of King Carol I 1869 15 bani red (fine to large margins) and 1871 25 bani brown (close to good margins), superbly tied by single crisp « BOTOSANI » 30 MAI 11 thimble cds, framed « RECOMANDAT » hs above and reverse with Bucharest arrival, a little internal splitting and a couple of reinforced tears, an attractive franking; the only cover we have recorded with lithographed Carol I issues sent to the King himself, and to find such an item in classic philately with stamps featuring the portrait of the addressee makes this a fantastic showpiece not only for the Romanian specialist but for the collector interested in the history of philately; cert.
