Lot 10178 – 1843, 60r black, early impression, horizontal marginal pair on letter from Rio to Santos

1843, 60r black, early impression, horizontal pair from the left of the sheet, three large margins to enormous at left, strong colour and very fresh, tied by 29 April 1845 « Correio Geral da Corte » cds on entire letter from Rio de Janeiro to Santos, endorsed “Princeza Imperial” for maritime carriage, paying the single rate. Cover edge splitting and some ink corrosions to cover which have been reinforced on back. In contrast with traditional folded letters, the text of the missive was written on a single page, which was also utilized on the outside cover where the pair was affixed, most infrequently also writing on the stamps. A very fine pair uncommonly found on the front, and an interesting usage of the text; unlisted in the Bernd Juchert census.
