Lot 10172 – 1843, 30r black, early impression, two 30r on cover from Rio to Sao Paulo

1843, 30r black, early impression (bordering to intermediate), two examples with clear to mainly large margins, together in slightly contrasting states of impression, tied by « Correio Geral Da Corte/4 2 18-44 » cds on cover to Sao Paulo, paying the single overland rate up to 1/2 ounce. The 30r at left is affected by small insect hole, the other displaying an interesting coloured hairline at top left. One of 14 items noted bearing two examples of the 30r (including pairs); this letter is included in the Bernd Juchert census with no provenance. Cert. Sismondo (2001).
