1964 Battle of the Falklands 6d black and light blue showing the famous H.M.S. Glasgow instead of H.M.S. Kent error, fresh and lightly mounted mint; one of the great rarities of the Elizabethan era, only seventeen examples recorded; cert. BPA (1985) (S.G. £40’000).Note: In December 1964 the Falkland Islands issued a set of four stamps to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the naval battle in the South Atlantic. Over four years later a Canadian collector reported finding a 6d stamp with the wrong ship; ‘H.M.S. Glasgow’ instead of ‘H.M.S. Kent’. It has since been determined that one sheet of sixty was printed in error and sent to the USA.Please note the correction to the printed estimate in the catalogue.
