STEAMER » 27 10 1841 ds on reverse, received at Hamburg and struck with forwarding agent’s monogram and forwarded to Hull with « HULL / SHIP LETTER » hs and ship letter fee of « 6 » corrected to « 1/-« , with Edinburgh transit and Kirkcaldy arrival, fine This Kronshtadt steamship mark is the only known example of Dobin type 7.01b. It was applied on shore as an « anti-bootleg » mark to indicate and reassure ship’s inspectors that postage had been paid.
