1853 4d Bright Red-Orange used BLOCK OF EIGHT, plate 1 & 1st state, pos. 5/24, with « 58 » numerals of Waterloo Point, some pressed creases, a couple of tiny thins and two small tears with one affecting a stamp
An attractive and very rare block of the 1st state and thought to be the largest known
Note: Only 2 known 1st state blocks of 8 according to Sato and only 3 blocks of 8 of plate 1 known in total (last sold Christie’s May 1991) Catalogue ref: 5
