The David Feldman SA Spring Auction Series<\/a> went ahead 13-17th June in temperatures of over 30\u00b0 in Geneva throughout the week, and the highlights, or hot-lights, were that we auctioned more than 5000 lots for over 3 millions in sales<\/strong>, with almost 70% of our Overseas and Collections<\/a> section selling for just shy of 180% of the estimates, and the Italian lots<\/a> which sold reached more than 150% of the estimates<\/strong>. Of course in sweltering heat the hammer did comedown on some hot items and some heated prices were realised, the shining star being Lot 51592<\/a> an extraordinary Album Timbres Poste \u2013 8e Edition by Justin Lallier, which was produced by A.Len\u00e8gre in 1869 and full of world rarities selling for a staggering \u20ac256\u2019200\u201900 from an estimate of \u20ac100-150\u2019000\u201900<\/strong>. It was an exciting moment which was recorded on camera by more than one participant in the room, the winning bidder being on the telephone and beating off competition from within the room, the internet and several weighty bookbids.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n As well as the Italian lots that sold exceeding expectations there were two other aspects of the auction week which overheated with bids far in excess of expectations, they were the Puerto Principe<\/a> which of the 186 lots available 184 sold, and prices soared on nearly every single lot, it was again an exciting part of the proceedings with several bidders online, in the room and on the telephone, each pushing the others up and up. <\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=”1_2,1_2″ _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_image src=”https:\/\/www.davidfeldman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/200717_full_puerto_principe_Stamps.jpeg” alt=”Stamp Puerto principe LOT 51429″ title_text=”200717_full_puerto_principe_Stamps” url=”https:\/\/www.davidfeldman.com\/dfsa-auctions\/2022-spring-auction-series\/overseas-and-collections-spring-2022\/51429\/puerto-prncipe-1898-3c-on-1m-horizontal-strip-of-t\/?soff_session_category=10297″ url_new_window=”on” _builder_version=”4.16.1″ global_colors_info=”{}”][\/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.16.1″ global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n Lot 51429 in our June 13th-17th auction series 2022:<\/a> Puerto Principe – 1898 3c on 1m orange-brown<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.16.1″ global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n A few to point out were; Lot 51429<\/a> which sold for \u20ac7\u2019320 from a starting estimate of just \u00a31\u2019000, and also Lot 51408<\/a> going for \u20ac4\u2019148 from a \u20ac200 start. There were others, such as; Lot 51379<\/a> selling for \u20ac5\u2019124 off just a \u20ac700 opening price, Lot 51388<\/a> the winning bid was \u20ac2\u2019684 against a lower estimate of \u20ac200, and Lot 51392<\/a> began at \u20ac1\u2019000 and eventually after an array of bids from various quarters sold for \u20ac6\u2019710. <\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.16.1″ global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n In a similar light during the GB and Empire<\/a> section we offered the \u201cOverstrand\u201d Collection of East Africa<\/a> where 88% of the lots sold and prices realised were in excess of two times the estimates. Bidding during this section was frenzied with bidders on the internet constantly thwarted by bold bookbids and prices achieved left those in the room gasping. Examples were Lot 60794<\/a>, a gorgeous 1890 Overprinted GB 1a on 2d mint block of four, selling for \u00a34\u2019880 from a start of \u00a32\u2019600, and Lot 60805<\/a> achieving \u00a31\u2019220 from a humble estimate of \u00a3300-400, and there was Lot 60836<\/a> being hotly fought after by three bidders and reaching \u00a33\u2019904 from a top estimate of \u00a32\u2019000. Lot 60880<\/a> a rare 1895-96 \u201cOn India\u201d 3R with variety \u201cB\u201d of \u201cBritish\u201d inserted by hand, used in Mombasa selling for a splendid \u00a38\u2019540 and Lot 60891<\/a> the mint 1895 2 1\/2a Provisional on 1a6p showing variety \u201c1 for i in British\u201d, making \u00a3915 from an opening of \u00a3200. <\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=”1_2,1_2″ _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.16.1″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n In the France<\/a> section the star of the show was Lot 40099<\/a> the 1853 Block of four Empire 1f carmine imperforate mint edge of the sheet with a spectacular variety of partial printing which sold for \u20ac17\u2019080 and Lot 40094<\/a> reaching its high estimate of \u20ac1\u2019464.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_image src=”https:\/\/www.davidfeldman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/201076_full_France_stamps_bloc_empire.jpeg” alt=”Timbres France Bloc de 4 Empire” title_text=”201076_full_France_stamps_bloc_empire” url=”https:\/\/www.davidfeldman.com\/dfsa-auctions\/2022-spring-auction-series\/france-2022\/40099\/empire-1853-1862-bloc-de-4-non-dentel-1-franc-carm\/” _builder_version=”4.16.1″ _module_preset=”default” width=”80%” max_width=”80%” global_colors_info=”{}”][\/et_pb_image][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.16.1″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.16.1″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.16.1″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n In the GB and British Empire<\/a> sale two significant rarities sold for excellent prices, Lot 60084<\/a> the 1840 1d Rainbow trial (state 3), complete sheet of 12 on gum paper one of only two known sold for \u00a323\u2019180 and Lot 6024<\/a>1 sold for \u00a314\u2019640 which was a very attractive horizontal pair of 1855 4d carmine pl.1, wmk small garter issue, and the very rare King Edward VII Inland Revenue 1902 10s ultramarine \u201cI.R. Official\u201d in mint condition, Lot 60435<\/a>, made \u00a336\u2019600 from an estimate of \u00a320-25\u2019000. <\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.16.1″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n Europe wasn\u2019t outdone and there were very healthy bids placed and prices paid for the Romania<\/a> material, such as Lot 50229<\/a> a 1866 20par black on rose thick paper, the superb and fresh mint block of ten, which went for \u20ac12\u2019200, and Lot 50214<\/a> selling for an impressive \u20ac9\u2019760 for the 1858 40pa greenish blue on yellowish-white wove paper, which was describe as the exceptionally rare complete sheet of thirty two – one of only two known. There was also competitive bidding for Lot 50239<\/a> which started at \u20ac600 and sold for \u20ac3\u2019660, and Lot 50240<\/a> again starting at the same price but sold for \u20ac2\u2019440. Several covers in this section also surprised a few with Lot 50246<\/a> selling for a rapturous \u20ac4\u2019392 after bidders on the telephone pushed the price from a relatively bullish starting bid of \u20ac1\u2019500 and Lot 50250<\/a> the 1872 cover to Giurgio franked with a 10b ultramarine Carol I with beard making an impressive \u20ac3\u2019904 from a \u20ac1\u2019200 start. It was a colourful session in the Romania<\/a> catalogue in terms of auction activity and material on offer. And this rich vein of prices continued through the early items with Lots 10003<\/a> to 10006<\/a> starting at \u20ac300 and reaching over \u20ac1220. After that great start Lot 10049<\/a> weighed in with an impressive \u20ac20\u2019740 for the Famous Ferrary T\u00eate-b\u00eache Pair 5pi yellow-greens and a 1pi vermilion mint, and mint nh top right foliated corner sheet marginal imperforate block of twenty-five, Lot 10083<\/a>, sold for \u20ac10\u2019980. And a collection of Italian occupation of Corfu, Lot 21156<\/a>, sold for \u20ac13\u2019420 from an estimate of \u20ac3\u2019000 and Lot 21070<\/a> a 1927 De Pinedo Transatlantic Flight with the \u201cSanta Maria\u201d Trepassey \u2013 the Rome Stage cover selling for a very respectable \u20ac8\u2019540 after starting at \u20ac4\u2019000. Lot 20435<\/a> – an unusual parcel tag – sold for \u20ac1\u2019830 and another eye catching result was the \u20ac20\u2019740 achieved for Lot 21116<\/a> which was a rather splendid 1934 “Provisional”,1.30l essay on 1.25l blue block of four, which attracted bids from the internet and on the phones taking it from a start of \u20ac12\u2019000. The Italian states section performed well and in particular Lot 21120<\/a>, a 1850-1867 Italian States extensive specialised collection exceeded expectations and realised \u20ac8\u2019540 from an upper estimate of \u20ac4\u2019000. And along a similar line Lot 21172<\/a>, a 1945-1957 Trieste collection made a dizzying \u20ac10\u2019370 from a start of just \u20ac2\u2019000.
