We are proud to announce the publication of the second volume of the Great Philatelic Collections books dedicated to the Egypt stamps collection formed by\u00a0Joseph H. Chalhoub<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This volume of\u00a0290 pages is presenting the Foreign Post Offices.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Six countries opened offices abroad in Egypt, some as early as the 1830s, to facilitate international mails before the formation of the Universal Postal Union: France, Greece, Austria, Great\u00a0Britain, Russia and Italy. All of these countries operated offices in Alexandria; France, Russia and Austria had offices in Port Said, and France and Great Britain had them in Cairo and Suez. All of these post offices were closed before 1890 (except the French offices in Alexandria and Port Said, which lasted until 1931).<\/p>\n

Although some of these offices were heavily used and stamps and covers from them are relatively plentiful, others saw little traffic, and examples of their use are scarce to very rare. The Austrian and Russian offices in Port Said are the rarest of all. This collection shows examples of each office of every one of the countries.<\/p>\n
