THE FAMOUS KANAI DARDENNE COVER
1859 Dardenne 1d. red, two vertical strips of four in different shades, with just touched to large margins, all cancelled by oval cancels on double-rate folded cover (missing side flaps) to Paris, bearing bs ‘GPO MAURITIUS/FE 6 1861’ large cds with Lyon and Paris cds alongside, on front with red Suez transit and « 24 » charge in manuscript. The bottom stamp of the upper strip showing the dot over « NN » variety.
Considered the most important item of the Dardenne issue and certainly one of the most important « Primitive » multi-franking covers of Mauritius.
