RIVER PECHORA: 1915 Letter-card to Petrograd from YAKUNI, Pechora River franked 10k tied by 2nd PECHORA STEAMSHIP ‘a’ 30 7 15 oval cancel. Passed to USTSYSOLSK ZEMSTVO POST 7 Aug 1915. Fine and rare. Extracts from message translate: « In an hour we take off to meet the postal steamer on which I shall post this letter….The postal steamer is not far away, its outline approaches in the mist ». During the summer service the Pechora River service extended northwards well beyond the Arctic Circle. Its southern terminus, at Ust Tsilma, connected with the rural (zemstvo) post roads running south and west.
