No. 67 2/20 Jassy to

holi(ness)……

Extra havas (?) With receipt

To His Holiness father Arhimandit Teofan, the egumen (chief) of the

Holy monastery Buhalnita (nowadays in Neamt county) with

humbleness. The Main Street Jassy

To your holiness father Arhimandrit Teofan, I humbly bow and kiss

the hand of your holiness.

Because a certain priest named Foni who came by himself here

trying to find a place, here with only 30 inhabitants a priest is not

necessary, and should he come to your holiness do not receive him,

a man without character who a few days back jumped on me with a

club, causes trouble in the village, I filed papers against the said

priest for the attack I suffered, thus I ask your holiness that, until you

come here or until we meet, do not receive him as we do not need

this kind of people, and when by the grace of God you will come here

then you will find out everything as I cannot explain everything in a

letter, I sign as your holiness’ humble and ready servant,

Signature M. Chiicevanovici

856 July 12, Verpolea

I beg your holiness to confirm receipt

 page 629 of “The Great Geographic Dictionary of Romania” by

Ioan George Lahovari published by “Romanian Geographic

Society” in 1900, mentiones that the village of Verpolea

together with Botosenita, Gramesti and Rudesti, formed

comuna Gramesti which belonged to plasa Berhometele,

Dorohoj district.

As such, the sender most likely took the letter of the post office

in Dorohoj, which applied its “FRANKO” stamp
