Hoysalas of Dorasamudra, Vishnuvardhan Bittiga, 1106-1152, AV pagoda, 4.08 g. (16 mm). Obverse: standing figure of god Vishnu on the back of a mythical lion (Sardula) holding conch-shell and mace in left hand and Chakra in right, flanked by sun and moon. Reverse: Kannada legend Shri/Nombavadi/Gonda in three lines with interlinear rules.
EF+, lustrous surfaces, struck with older dies.
An extremely rare coin, very rarely found with such clear design and readable legend. The title Nolambawadi/Nonambavadi Gonda (conqueror of the Nolamba country) was held by Bittiga to commemorate his conquest of the Sira – Madakasire region before 1117 CE.
