Description
1911 1d imperforate in the issued colour affixed to a thick card, showing handwritten “Confidential / Specimen for colour for George V / 1d Unified Stamp“, signed “Seymour Bennett” (Bennett was head of the stamping department) and with purple “STAMPING / DEPARTMENT / 18 MAY 1911” handstamp adjacent. It is believed that this is the actual colour standard used by Harrison & Sons, and that the rectangular portion of the card cut away at left was to allow it to be placed over a sheet of stamps to compare the colour. The card with some light stain spotting though in no way detracting from this unique and most important item Catalogue ref: SG 327
