Description

1845 (12.4) Folded entire from Reverend Justin Perkins in Oroomiah (Orumiah) mission addressed to Reverend Thomas Edward Vermilye in New York City, redirected to Fairfield Connecticut, via Boston with red transit ds “BOSTON” and “NEW YORK” arrival straight line “SHIP”, very fine, attractive and rare missionary letter, cert. Persiphila (2011)

Note: Reverend Justin Perkins wrote that the Jesuits, aided by an official agent sent into Persia by the French government had caused many problems and that he had to go to Teheran to vindicate the mission, travelling 1100 miles on horse and encountering snow three feet deep. He enquired of the recipient “what will be the effect of the annexation of Texas on the perpetunity of removal of slavery?”
