1910 R.O.P.i.T. FLOATING EXHIBITION was designed to celebrate the Company’s 50th Anniversary (1906) but did not take place until 1909-10. It was held on board the Company’s ship IMPERATOR NIKOLAI II and the itinerary covered all ports of call normally used by the Company’s ships between Odessa and Alexandria. The Exhibition was open at Alexandria between 10th and 23rd January 1910. there was no Russian Post Office at Alexandria at this time and commemorative mail was required to be franked with Egyptian stamps.
3 items from this exhibition: Viewcard sent to St Petersburg franked Egyptian stamps with violet oval cachet RUSSIAN COMPANY FOR STEAMSHIPPING AND TRADE FLOATING EXHIBITION. A rare souvenir card of the Exhibition sent to Constantinople where the Egyptian stamp was cancelled by the Russian P.O. Finally a beautiful decorative envelope from the exhibition with printed ROPiT sent to the USA, franked Ottoman 1pi and cancelled Stamboul cds. Fine and rare trio.
