1884 Russian Levant 1k orange block of 4 cancelled blue triple-lined oval ODESSA AGENCY / QUARANTINE HARBOUR OF THE RUSSIAN COMPANY FOR STEAMSHIPPING AND TRADE. This cancellation was used on uncancelled mail found in the letter-boxes of ROPiT ships from Levant ports undergoing quarantine at Odessa. Hitherto only known by a fragment incorrectly interpreted as “Management of the Odessa Agency of ROPiT (“Russia used Abroad”, pt. 6, 1960, pp.556-7). Also same issue 1k pair with part blue ODESSA / R.O.P.i.T. / QUARANTINE HARBOUR. Cancellation was used for same usage. Accompanied by a viewcard and early nineteenth century print of the Quarantine Harbour.
