LAKE LADOGA/RIVER NEVA: 1896 Obsolete 5k inter-town card issued 1872 to St Petersburg, received by River Neva postal steamship 20 VI 1896 where cancelled C’PAROKHODOM’ IZ? SHLISSELBURGA (BY STEAMSHIP FROM SHLISSELBURG). Card stained but fine and rare strike, plus 2k strip of 5 with the same cancel tied to small piece.
Because imprinted stamp no longer valid, assessed at letter rate and 14k (0 2 X 7k) postage due charged on arrival.
