The mail routes are indicated for the colonial items according to the five ‘carreras’ (routes), which included the Carrera a Cartagena, Carrera del Choco, Carrera de Quito, Carrera de Girón and Carrera del Rosario de Cúcuta. Among the highlights, we want to mention the postmarks of Anserma (probably unique), a previously unrecorded example of Carondelet, Tequia (probably unique), extremely rare examples from Chaparral, Gigante, Guadalupe, Mercaderes, Tenerife and Micay, ’’Yndias’’ on transatlantic mail struck in Colombia, etc, all applied during the colonial period. The Republican period is also enriched by very rare postmarks and registered mail.
The gem of the collection is the most important item of Colombian prephilately, featuring the negative circular postmark of Santa Rosa de Cabal, unique including a postal value of franking. This is the only known example of a forerunner postmark prior to the first postage stamps, and it is recorded on just two letters, few weeks before the issue of postage stamps in Colombia.
