Philby, already based in Iraq, was sent as the British representative to the Ruler of Nejd Sultan Abdul Aziz, leaving Basra in late October 1917 for Riyadh. This cover, from his wife in India (dep. Bombay 8.12) was re-directed to the Political Agent in Kuwait and forwarded to Philby, who was in Taif till Dec. 28th and in Jeddah from Dec. 31st to Jan. 14th, a very rare cover. 500 - 1’000 30019 F 1916 (5.11) Envelope from the French Military Mission in Hejaz to France sent via the British APO SZ 15 in Suez (5.11) and the French P.O. in Port Said (on reverse 6.11), bearing French Military cachet “AMBULANCE / LE MEDCIB-CHEF” double circle in blue and applied at the French military HQ in Suez, very fine and the earliest recorded cover from a member of this mission Note: This cover is described in the Uexkull Handbook (p.94) 400 - 600
