N° Estimate ( € ) Romania – Early Postal History & Classic Stamps – June 5, 2019 20049 20048 20048 F GIURGIU: 1838 (6.11) Folded entire addressed to the Serbian embassy in Bucharest, bearing on reverse clear 1830 type negative black seal of the “GIURGIU” quarantine station, together with remarks, date and signature of the quarantine station, with usual rastel holes (Dragomir type K30 – 5R; see # 4 on page 55) , a fine strike and extremely rare Note: Cover translation may be viewed on line 1’500 - 2’000 20049 F GURA IALOMITEI: 1837 Postal document regarding a courier payment and containing two messages, the top message, dated April 25, is written by the Gura Ialomitei Post and confirms the receipt of 20 lei for a courier (stafeta) sent to the Calarasi Quarantine under No. 203, the second message below, dated April .., is written by the Gura Ialomitei Quarantine and confirms the receipt/handling of the said twenty lei, the document bears a 1834 type very clear, pictorial, negative seal of the Gura Ialomitei Quarantine station, extremely rare, apparently unique Note: It is the only 1834 mark of the Gura Ialomitei Quarantine known on the philatelic market, the only known usage of a quarantine document in regards to a courier and the only one bearing the signature of both the post and the quarantine offices.
