Commemoratives 10050 CC J C24b-C26b 1927 Statistical Congress, complete set of three, Royal oblique perforations in mint nh bottom left corner marginal plate blocks of four, numbered A/27, 10m with handling bend at top, 15m with faint vertical gum bend in margin, otherwise fine to very fine, extremely rare, one of only two possible control blocks sets Provenance: The Palace Collection of King Farouk 3’600 1928 International Medical Congress In May 1928, the Postmaster General approved “Imhotep” for the 5 mills. stamp and “Mohamed Ali” for the 10 mills. stamp. Imhotep was the Royal architect, adviser to the Pharaoh Zoser (builder of the Step Pyramid of Sakkara, Third Dynasty, around 2900 B.C.) and a physician with a famous hospital and a school of medicine at Memphis. Mohamed Ali (1805-1848) was chosen for the other stamp as he was instrumental in establishing medical services in Egypt. In 1827, he invited Clot Bey, a physician from France, to organize the medical school and the Kasr el Aini Hospital at Cairo.
