Through our auctions which have spanned over forty years, we have presided over the dispersal of hundreds of “Grand Prix” and “Large Gold Medal” collections, formed by collectors with dedication, passion and the resources to pursue their chosen fields over decades or a lifetime. While in some cases we retained photocopies (mostly in black and white), and though the auction catalogues presented the key individual components of these collections, we often wished that today’s generation of philatelists had the opportunity to see some of these collections in their entirety.
Thus this series of books is intended to preserve “the best of the best” of today’s collection for posterity, as the collections themselves have been presented, usually in exhibit form and as annotated by their creators. Some may remain “under construction” by their owners for years to come, others may be dispersed. All have in common the greatness that a collector’s passion, applied to the pursuit of a single subject, can bring to fruition.
Our own passion for the greatest individual rarities from throughout the world is well recognised, as are the record prices we have achieved for their owners. Through these books, we share with philatelists throughout the world the contexts in which many of the great rarities are often found, and how their current custodians incorporate some of them in telling the fascinating story of their subject.
We hope these volumes may spread knowledge of their subject matter. We also hope the passion and effort, as well as the time and resources that the collectors have invested to produce these “labours of love” is appreciated. Though many of the “Great Philatelic Collections” have been appropriated in the exhibiting arenas, where time to view is by necessity limited, we recommend these volumes to you as lasting monuments to the pursuit of philatelic excellence by their creators, and as references for future generations.
All are available at Euro 75 plus postage on our online shop (or the equivalent in US$ or CHF).
If you have an important world-class exhibit collection of an area, country or subject, please contact us to find out what it would take for us to publish (at no cost to you) a book that will forever serve as a memorial to your accomplishments and as a reference for future philatelists.
